Panjab University started its 2nd Technical Institute in Kandi Area of Punjab at Hoshiarpur from the session 2006-2007. The campus has been started keeping in mind objective of upliftment of rural students through technical education, quality training programs in need based modern technology, inculcation of moral, ethical and spiritual values in education at all levels. The campus has been established in a beautiful lush green environment with state-of-the-art Infrastructure. Panjab University is one of the oldest universities in India funded by Government of India, having a history of providing training and research work in areas such as arts, science, technology and medicine. The university expanded its activities in technical education in 2002 by establishing a campus technical institution, University Institute of Engineering and Technology, Panjab University (U.I.E.T). To expand its technical education, Panjab University started a regional centre at Hoshiarpur. The present campus was taken over by Panjab University in 2006 and started BE courses in 2006.
SSGPURC is the most versatile off-campus establishment of Panjab University, Chandigarh.
SSGPURC has recently been awarded the status of IBM Centre Of Excellence. Although a recent establishment, the regional campus has progressed fast. Its admission procedure is through the combined counselling of PEC University of Technology,University Institute of Engineering and Technology, Panjab University,University Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology,Chandigarh College of Engineering and Technology which are all very reputed colleges. Among these five institutes, Panjab University owns University Institute of Engineering and Technology, University Institute of Chemical Engineering and Technology and Swami Sarvanand Giri Panjab University Regional Centre, Hoshiarpur. The selection procedure is strictly on the basis of AIEEE and hence it host students of good All India Ranks and probably the best in the region. Moreover,It is targeted to be one of the leading college of Punjab under the aegis of Panjab University, Chandigarh.
